Rabbi Leo Dee, who lost his wife Lucy and his two daughters Maya and Rina in a murderous shooting attack in the Jordan Valley on Passover more than two years ago, announced this evening (Thursday) his engagement to Aliza Teplitzky.
In a post published on his Facebook page, Dee wrote: "And for everything, Lord our God, we thank you... With praise and thanksgiving, we are excited to share the good news: we are engaged - Aliza and Leo," alongside a photo of the couple smiling in front of the sunset.
His two daughters were murdered immediately, while his wife Lucy Dee was still fighting for her life after being seriously injured, but died of her wounds a few days after the attack.
Since the terrible tragedy that befell his family, Leo Di has become a well-known public figure in Israel and around the world, thanks to the unique way he chose to deal with the loss: with determination, faith, and a message of unity.
In a conversation with students last year, he said: "My valley of weeping was that Passover in the Jordan Valley, but the Holy One, blessed be He, had great compassion on me. I see how much you loved Lucy and I know how much she loved you."
He added, "People ask me, what would have happened if you had left ten minutes later on the day of the attack, and I answer them, 'I'm not allowed to ask what if,' with one exception, what if the Holy One, blessed be He, knows better than I do, and that gives me comfort."
