An IDF spokesman updated that during the night (Tuesday), following accurate intelligence received by the Intelligence Branch and a sudden opportunity, Air Force fighter jets attacked a manned headquarters in the heart of Tehran.

During the attack, Ali Shadmani, Iran's Chief of Staff and the country's most senior military commander, was killed.

Shadmani was the closest man to Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, and served as commander of the Armed Forces' Emergency Command.

He commanded the Revolutionary Guards and the Iranian army, and also served as head of the Operations Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.

At the beginning of Operation 'Am Kalavi', Shadmani was appointed to command Iran's armed forces, after his predecessor, Alam Ali Rashid, was eliminated in the opening blow of the operation.

The "Khatem al-Anbiya" emergency command under Shadmani's command is responsible for managing the fighting and approving Iranian fire plans, and therefore he acted directly in directing plans to harm the State of Israel.

Shadmani's assassination joins a series of assassinations of the highest military command in Iran, and undermines the chain of command of the Iranian armed forces.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar referred to the assassination of the Iranian war chief of staff, the replacement for the senior officer who was assassinated at the beginning of the fighting.

""This morning we were informed that our forces have eliminated the Iranian Chief of Staff, the replacement for the Chief of Staff who was eliminated at the beginning of the war. We still don't know who the replacement will be. I would recommend that whoever is offered the position consider it carefully. If he answers in the affirmative, he is advised to be extremely cautious.".
