Israel launched a preemptive strike against Iran last night (Friday night). The operation was named "Am Kalavi".
In Iran, military command targets, commanders, military targets, headquarters, and nuclear sites were attacked.
Iranian media reported explosions heard throughout the country and in Tehran.
The political and security cabinet convened.
Israel says that the Iranians have made progress in their nuclear program and therefore it has been decided to act. According to Israel, the Iranians can reach 15 bombs "at a time of decision" because they have fissile material. In addition, it is reported that they have a plan to reach thousands of ballistic missiles and this is an existential threat and therefore this array will also be attacked.
According to reports in 'Iran International': Homes of senior political and military figures in Iran were targeted in Israeli attacks.
Additionally, according to Al-Hadath Channel, the Israeli attack is focused on nuclear facilities and military bases in Tehran.
Defense Minister Yisrael Katz immediately declared a special situation in the home front throughout the entire State of Israel.
According to the Defense Minister's announcement, "Following the State of Israel's preemptive strike against Iran, a missile and drone attack against the State of Israel and its civilian population is expected in the immediate future.".
At the same time, the IDF spokesman announced changes to the Home Front Command's defense policy. As part of the changes, it was decided to move all regions of the country from a full activity level to a necessary activity level. The guidelines include: a ban on educational activities, gatherings, and workplaces, with the exception of essential businesses.
The IDF spokesman's statement emphasized: "The guidelines published by the Home Front Command through official distribution channels must be continued to be followed. The full guidelines will be updated on the National Emergency Portal and in the Home Front Command app.".
The Ministry of Transportation announced that the airspace of the State of Israel has been closed to takeoffs and landings until further notice. "The purpose of the closure is to prevent and reduce risk to passengers and aircraft. Passengers who were scheduled to take off from Ben Gurion Airport today are asked to stay home and not come to the airport.".
The Ministry of Transportation added: "Passengers will receive a media notice at least 6 hours before the airspace reopens and will be updated on the new date of their flights on the airline websites and on the Airports Authority website. Passengers who are abroad and whose flights were canceled, or did not depart, or landed at other airports, are asked to follow the media notices and, starting from the reopening of the airspace, to be updated on the airline websites about their new flight date.".
The US ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, tweeted tonight, before the attack began, on his X account: "I am at the embassy and closely monitoring what is happening. We will remain here all night. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.".
