A one-year-old toddler, who was forgotten in a car in the Har Nof neighborhood in Jerusalem yesterday, from morning until afternoon, arrived at Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center.
On Thursday, we salute national-civilian service personnel from Haredi society: Want to participate?
The toddler arrived in stable condition, with a fever of 42 degrees and burns to her scalp and cheek - and is now hospitalized for continued observation at the medical center.
The baby's parents say: "This can happen to anyone. Even to the most normative people and the most invested and caring parents. We tell everyone - don't rely on yourself. We told ourselves we would buy safety sensors when we bought the car, and in the hustle and bustle of life, we pushed it aside.
"It's important for us to say - buy sensors right when you buy the car. A second of failure can cost the lives of your children. There could be years when nothing happens and suddenly one mistake. This is something you don't gamble on and don't take a risk on."
Dr. Giora Wieser, director of the pediatric emergency room at Shaarei Tzedek, who treated the toddler, says: "The baby came to us after many hours in the car, with a fever and burns. I am calling out to parents - this can happen to any of you. Life is busy and this is a mistake that can happen even to the most responsible and dedicated parents. Install safety sensors, set reminders for yourself, anything that will help prevent the next tragedy."
