Brigadier General (res.) Ofer Winter praised his former friend from the Givati Brigade, Rabbi Avraham Zerbib, a member of the Tel Aviv Rabbinical Court, for his work on the battlefield in the Gaza Strip - and the method of victory that he instills in many.
Winter wrote: "Zerbib, my dear brother, I am proud of you, as a student who surpassed his master. You are an example and a role model, this is how we win and bring our people home safely.".
Winter shared a video of Rabbi Zerbib from Independence Day at the Merkaz HaRav yeshiva, where the dayan shared about the methods of fighting in Gaza. "I started something new in the world where you can knock down buildings of 5 stories or more. At first I destroyed a few D-9s and it wasn't pleasant, but the turning point was on Sukkot.".
He attributes the transformation to a game at a playground with his granddaughter: "After the Sukkot holiday, I went to a playground with my granddaughter, swinging the girl, then waiting for the swing to reach its peak on the other side and swinging again. My mind was busy demolishing houses, and suddenly the token fell to me - swinging the houses instead of quarrying the house.
""I arrived in Jabalia in the middle of Sukkot and said - let's try. I started knocking down avenues of houses and Company Commander Reish says: Take a picture of him doing it. At first, knocking down a house was a deathly fear.".
