United States President Donald Trump announced at the White House this evening (Tuesday) the 'Gold Dome' program, which is intended to provide the United States with a full protective envelope against all types of missile attacks.

Trump announced in a statement that he had chosen a design for the defense program, and also appointed General Michael Goltin, of the US Space Force, to head it.

According to a report in 'Kan News', Trump mentioned the Israeli 'Iron Dome' system at the announcement event, mentioned that the US had helped Israel with this system "and it was very successful" - and bragged: "Now we have better technology."

Later, he mentioned Israel again: "You see what we did to help Israel. They (the Iranians) launched about 500 missiles, and only half of them managed to penetrate. In technological terms, we will be much more advanced than that."

It should be noted that there is no connection between the planned system and Iron Dome, while Golden Dome is supposed to provide a multi-layered response to ballistic missiles, UAVs, hypersonic missiles, and weapons in space.

According to the president, the system will be operational by the end of his term - in less than four years.

The next budget to be submitted to Congress is expected to include a request for initial funding for the system, in the amount of $25 billion.

The total cost is estimated to reach $175 billion.
