According to a report by Avishai Greenzig, legal commentator for the i24NEWS channel, in a closed correspondence group of judges, several of his colleagues shared personal messages of support.
Judge Alon Ofir of the Beer Sheva Magistrate's Court, for example, wrote to him: "Although I do not know the details of the case in depth, I am strengthening you and encouraging you until the storm passes and you return to your life.".
On Monday, it was reported that the President of the Beersheba Magistrate's Court, Judge Amit Yariv, also expressed support: "I thank Yoram for the dedicated work he is doing and has done to bring the Southern District to professional peaks, even during a difficult period of personal, community and national struggle. Yoram - hold on.".
Earlier this week, i24NEWS reported that judges working with Broza claimed that during internal meetings, the judge made a series of harsh statements against the religious sector.
Among the quotes attributed to him: "Because of you, the religious, all this mess happened to us. All the mess of the October Seven happened because of you," in another instance he said: "Why didn't they kill Ben Gvir and his son, Smotrich and his son? The religious are to blame for what happened to us. They are the biggest danger to the country." He was also heard saying in closed conversations, "Religious-nationalists are worse than Hamas.".
It is also alleged that he said at an event with religious participants: "I can't stand them." In another case, when a religious judge excitedly presented a photo of her son in Golani, he responded: "I'm not willing to see such photos.".
In response, Judge Broza stated, through the Judiciary's spokeswoman: "The statements attributed to the judge include things that were not said and are devoid of context, were drawn in a biased manner from private conversations, and do not reflect his positions. It is regrettable that there were those who chose to bring, supposedly from the judge's mouth, parts of things that were not said at all or who distort things that were said in private conversations between colleagues.".
Religious Zionist Chairman and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich responded to the revelation: "Judge Yoram Broza is a morally corrupt person who does not deserve to continue in his position even for one more day. Like him, so does Judge Alon Ofir, who supports him 'within the family', and so does President Amit Yariv, who wrote to Judge Broza in front of all the judges, 'Hold on,' and so does the President of the Supreme Court, who fills his mouth with water and closes everything 'within the family.'".
""The Israeli legal system is rotten, untrustworthy and proves time and again how critical the reforms we are determined to make to it are for the sake of justice, equality, Judaism and democracy. Religious Zionism is the salt of the earth and will continue to lead with joy, light and love of Israel the enterprise of our national revival and take responsibility for all areas of activity in the State of Israel.".
Minister of Immigration and Absorption, Ofir Sofer, attacked: "Judge Yoram Broza cannot remain in his position for even one more moment. His statements against religious Zionism are serious incitement and unbecoming of a judge in the State of Israel. Religious Zionism will continue to make a deep and significant contribution to Israeli society at all levels.".
