A young man was pulled from the water lifeless and 12 others were moderately and lightly injured when a boat capsized this evening (Wednesday) off Neviot Beach in Eilat.
Rescue forces are working at the scene and searching for the missing person.
An initial investigation revealed that the boat capsized during a sharp turn and the 12 passengers on board were thrown into the water.
The boat's passengers were rescued with the assistance of rescue forces.
The MDA spokeswoman said that the maritime police also rescued two people who were moderately injured, and eight who were slightly injured and suffered from anxiety.
Rescue forces called to the scene provided first aid to the injured.
MDA emergency medical technician Eli Vaknin said: "I was with my wife and children near the scene of the incident. The boats that were there rescued a man about 40 years old, but his injuries were serious and we had no choice but to declare him dead. In addition, we treated two men in moderate condition, including a man about 40 years old with injuries to his chest and abdomen and a man about 40 years old with a serious injury to his foot. At the scene of the incident, we treated 7 additional victims and they were quickly evacuated to the hospital, whose condition is described as mild."
Danny Shmueli, Maor Nachum and Yishay Elmaleh, paramedics at the United Hatzalah: "This is a maritime accident in which a boat capsized while sailing off the coast of Neviot. Together with other paramedics, we provided first aid to two injured people in moderate condition. There were also 8 injured people in mild and anxious condition, and another injured person who was unfortunately pronounced dead and was rescued by the police boat, which is still conducting scans to rule out additional casualties."
The police said: "Eilat Regional Police, including marine police, are currently handling a vessel accident that occurred as a result of a capsizing in the Gulf of Eilat. Several injured people with varying degrees of injury were evacuated from the scene. Police forces are at the scene and are conducting searches to locate additional people involved."
The police later stated: "The search and rescue operations in the Gulf of Eilat have been completed. The fear of additional involvement has been ruled out."
As part of the fatal accident, 12 injured people of varying degrees were evacuated for medical treatment. The maritime police pulled one injured person out of the water, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The Eilat Regional Police have begun investigating the circumstances of the incident. Police forces, including patrol officers, investigators and forensic investigators, are currently at the hospital collecting evidence and findings."
