Has anyone in the army come to their senses? The IDF intends to launch Operation 'Mercy for Deserters'.

According to a report by i24NEWS military correspondent Yinon Shalom Yatach, tonight (Monday) on the channel's main edition, it will be a concentrated week, during which deserters who have evaded service for a long period of time will be able to go to the recruitment offices and enlist - without having to go to military prison first to serve their sentence.

The idea has been circulating among senior military officials and will be up for approval soon.

The operation comes, among other things, following the publication in i24NEWS about the ultra-Orthodox Israeli intelligence officer Shimili Yaqtar from Bnei Brak, who requested to enlist after two years of desertion - but before enlisting, he was imprisoned in military prison for 12 days.
