A loud explosion was heard this evening (Saturday) in one of the upscale neighborhoods in Kiryat Ata - when a rocket was fired at a house in Kiryat Ata.
Police forces arrived at the scene along with numerous medical personnel. There were no casualties in the incident.
Police forces launched an extensive investigation to determine the source of the explosion. First, the officers noticed a suspicious object nearby and realized it was a rocket launcher - which was apparently launched towards the house.
The Lao missile is a shoulder-fired missile, typically used by IDF forces.
The police said: "A short time ago, a firearm was fired at an empty residential apartment with no occupants and no injuries in Kiryat Ata, apparently on a criminal basis. Police officers from the Zevulun station are at the scene and have begun collecting findings and evidence as part of the investigation that has been opened.".
An eyewitness told Channel 14: "There was such a frightening explosion here. We thought a rocket had fallen like in the last round with Lebanon.".
He added: "Earlier today, two Molotov cocktails were thrown at this house. The neighbors put out the fire.".
A resident of Kiryat Ata said: "The situation here is really stressful. It was fired at a house across from us. Just a few weeks ago, a grenade was fired at the same house at 2 a.m. There was a great panic among the neighbors and the police sent one police officer in a car to keep watch all night - we felt a crazy disregard and that our security was not being taken seriously.".
She added: "Tonight, we didn't understand how an alarm wasn't activated. It sounded terribly, terribly loud. We and the neighbors are angry that the police are not addressing the crime incidents in the Kiryat Binyamin neighborhood and only after an anti-tank missile was fired, suddenly they are addressing it. Hezbollah didn't fire an anti-tank missile at us, but criminals did.".
