The Ministry of Defense published this evening (Sunday) the list of ministers who will arrive at the military cemeteries on Memorial Day to participate in ceremonies on behalf of the State of Israel.
Defense Minister Yisrael Katz will not be able to visit any military cemetery due to his being a priest - and therefore, contrary to the long-standing tradition in which the Defense Minister visits the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul, Minister Avi Dichter was placed in his place this year.
Minister Katz will instead participate in the ceremony at the National Memorial Hall on Mount Herzl.
Justice Minister Yariv Levin, who was initially scheduled to attend the cemetery in Nahariya, will ultimately attend the ceremony in Gush Etzion. In his place, in Nahariya, the government will be represented at the ceremony by Minister of the Negev and the Galilee, Yitzhak Vassaroff.
Contrary to claims on the left, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir was not assigned to memorial ceremonies at cemeteries this year because he is participating in the official ceremony for police martyrs.
On the Mount of Olives, the government was represented by ministers and deputy ministers from the ultra-Orthodox factions.
Minister Uri Maklev, whose uncle fell in the War of Independence, was removed from the list and was not included in any of the ceremonies at the cemeteries. He represented the government at another ceremony. This was after he was included in the cemetery in Gush Etzion, but refused.
Minister Yitzhak Goldnoff, who last year was subjected to insults at the Rehovot cemetery, will participate in the ceremony in Kiryat Gat this year.
Minister Meir Porush will participate in the ceremony in Khurfish.
In recent weeks, Yad Labanim Chairman Eli Ben Shem approached Prime Minister Netanyahu and asked him to be sensitive in sending public figures to the various cemeteries, after the storms of the past two years.
