Against the backdrop of the arrest of several yeshiva graduates in recent months and the lack of progress in formulating an agreed-upon conscription law: Yeshiva head Rabbi Bergman spoke during the holiday celebration at his residence on the seventh evening of Passover, strongly opposing the draft decree, and the obligation to strengthen yeshiva students in their firm stand not to cooperate with the military authorities.
The head of the yeshiva said: "I want to take advantage of the opportunity that we are gathering to address just one point, which actually concerns us. Everyone knows that the whole of Israel is in great danger today. There is a threat against yeshiva students that they will be taken into the army, God forbid.".
""I want to tell you, we must all stand firm on this matter. We will inform everyone, those who want to hear and those who don't want to hear, that we will not give up on anyone. No one is entitled to give up on the Holy Torah.".
The Grand Patriarch added: "And if we stand strong. And protect the yeshiva students, so that they know that everyone is with them, then God, the Blessed, will help the decree be repealed and we will merit the raising of the Torah's horn and the coming of the Messiah soon in our days, Amen.".
