Minister Miki Zohar of the Likud responded this morning (Tuesday), in an interview on the Be'er Sheva network, to the storm caused by the affidavit submitted by ousted Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar, which contains serious accusations against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the government.
Zohar said: "Ronen Bar took a political side, he dipped his hand in the political pot and lost the trust that should be received. From the moment the relationship between him and Netanyahu deteriorated, in recent months, it suddenly seemed that he was taking a Kaplanist leftist approach.".
""I can't put my finger on the time when the relationship began to deteriorate. His political, Kaplanist approach matches that of the legal advisor to the government.".
When asked why Netanyahu waited to fire Bar, if he thought he had failed on October 7, Zohar replied: "Exactly for the same reason it didn't happen with former Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi. We had conversations about it in the government, the decision was that since we failed in this October 7 story, and it's on all of us, we said we would fix it together. So there were no dismissals of the Shin Bet head or Chief of Staff. There was an expectation that by the time the investigations were submitted, each of the next ones would hand over the keys.".
And what about government responsibility?
""With us, it's a clear story, a democratic story. The people choose and appoint him." He also referred to Netanyahu's responsibility: "The prime minister is not the one to blame for Hamas' decision to come en masse to Israel. Only the citizens of Israel can decide the matter of the prime minister.".
