At first light: This morning (Tuesday), the search was renewed for the diver at the mouth of the Hadera River who was attacked by a shark.

Navy and maritime police boats and forces from the Fire and Rescue Department's Lehaba unit are working at the scene with the assistance of divers with specialized equipment in an attempt to locate the diver.

According to a report in Kan News, the missing man is a resident of Petah Tikva in his forties, married and has four children. He finished his day's work in the north of the country and on his way home decided to stop and fish at the mouth of the Hadera River - and told a friend about it.

His identity was revealed when his belongings were found on the beach and the truck he arrived in was located. Police came to his home to inform his family of his absence.

Yesterday afternoon, it was reported on the Hadera River beach that a man had been bitten by sharks in the sea. In footage from the scene released yesterday, an eyewitness was heard shouting: "There's someone here with a shark, screaming for help, try to save him.".

An eyewitness told News 12 about the dramatic moments: "I saw the diver in the depths of the water, he shouted, 'They bit me, they bit me,' and waved his hands in the air. After a few minutes, sharks bit him - and suddenly he disappeared.".

An assessment by rescue forces at the scene revealed that the missing man was a fisherman who had dived into the sea while wearing a belt with his fishing catch. It is believed that the catch attracted the sharks that attacked him.

The beaches of Hadera, Machmoret, Beit Yanai and Naurim are still closed to swimming until a new assessment of the situation takes place.
