Against the backdrop of the stalemate in talks to release the hostages: The political-security cabinet will convene this evening (Tuesday) for a discussion in which a decision is expected to be made regarding the possibility of deepening the fighting in the Gaza Strip.

The political establishment expected that the continued military action and the restriction of humanitarian aid would lead to pressure on Hamas - which would allow the adoption of the "Witkoff Outline" for another hostage deal, but the terrorist organization has so far rejected the proposals.

Cabinet ministers are divided on the question of applying pressure: the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense are leading a line according to which military pressure on Gaza should be increased gradually to enable another deal.

On the other hand, Minister Bezalel Smotrich leads a more assertive position, according to which the pace of fighting must be significantly increased now in order to completely defeat Hamas, as defined in the war's objectives.

The BBC reported today that a senior Palestinian official involved in the ceasefire talks claimed that the mediators proposed a ceasefire that would last between 5 and 7 years - and would include the release of all hostages in exchange for terrorists imprisoned in Israel, a formal end to the war, and the withdrawal of IDF forces from the entire Gaza Strip.

According to the source, Hamas has signaled its willingness to transfer control of Gaza to any Palestinian entity that would be agreed upon by all parties.

A senior Hamas delegation is expected to arrive in Cairo for consultations.
