An exciting closing of the circle for the Elkabetz family: The personal computer of their daughter Sivan, who was murdered with her partner Naor Hasidim on October 7th in her home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza, was located and returned to the parents.
On the eve of the Seder, the Sderot police station opened an investigation into a particularly sensitive incident: the father of Sivan Elkabetz reported to the police that the house where Sivan Elkabetz lived, which is currently used as a memorial complex, had been broken into and a laptop computer that Sivan had used in her studies as a student had been stolen.
As part of the rapid investigative actions carried out last night, the laptop was located, and two suspects, foreign nationals living in Ashkelon, were detained for questioning on suspicion of committing the act.
Today (Thursday), Sderot Station Commander, Lt. Col. Meidad Lavie, met with Shimon Elkabetz and returned his computer to him, in an emotional ceremony that took place at the Sivan memorial complex in Kfar Gaza, accompanied by Sderot Station police officers.
Sgt. Meidad Lavie, commander of the Sderot police station: "From the moment we received the report, we understood the seriousness of the incident - not only on a criminal level, but also on an emotional and moral level. This is an act that hurts the heart of memory. We activated all the resources at our disposal, out of a deep sense of mission. The station's investigators did not stop until they located the computer - because it was clear to us that it had to return home, to Sivan's parents.
"The Israel Police takes property crimes in general very seriously - and especially when it comes to damage to sites used to commemorate the murdered. We will continue to act decisively to return the property and bring the suspects to justice.".
