A special investigation team established in the Northern District led to the arrest of two suspects in the grenade attack at the home of the head of the Merom Galilee Council.
At the end of their investigation, indictments will be filed against the two today (Monday).
40 days ago, a report was received at the police hotline 100 about a suspicious object placed at the entrance to the house of the head of the Merom HaGalil Council, Amit Sofer.
Upon the arrival of police and sabotage forces from the Northern District, a grenade was found at the entrance to his home along with a greeting card with the caption: "Congratulations, we will visit you at your office as soon as possible.".
After assessing the situation, it was decided to establish a special investigation team to investigate the incident, while using all means to reach those behind the incident.
About two weeks ago, when the investigation became public, two suspects were arrested - a 24-year-old resident of Nof al-Galil and a 16-year-old minor - with one of them being arrested at the Taba border crossing, before leaving for Egypt.
The investigation material indicates that the two suspects arrived at the settlement where the council head lives on a scooter, and after placing the grenade at the entrance to his house, they drove to the area of the city of Nazareth.
It also emerges that the background to the placement of the bomb is an attempt by various parties to influence the decision-making of the head of the council in his role as head of the Marom Galil Planning and Building Committee.
This morning, as mentioned, upon completion of the investigation phase, the Northern District Attorney's Office is expected to file indictments and a request to detain the two until the end of the proceedings in the Nazareth District Court.
