ZAKA volunteers were called to Yosef Haim Street in Bnei Brak, following a report of a 60-year-old woman found lifeless in an advanced state of decomposition inside her apartment.
Shmuel Kalman, Director of the Logistics Department at ZAKA, and volunteer Oshi Rosenberg, who are handling the scene, said: “Upon receiving the report at the ZAKA hotline (1223), we were rushed to Yosef Haim Street in Bnei Brak, where an unmarried woman living alone was found, inside an apartment filled with garbage. The neighbors, who were conducting a leaven test in the building in preparation for the holiday, smelled a pungent odor outside the door of the house – and immediately called the rescue forces, and to their shock, the neighbor was found in a state of severe decomposition. We are now working at the scene together with other volunteers, taking care to honor the deceased by collecting the numerous findings and assisting the MAS forces operating at the scene. The body will be transferred for further treatment and examination at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine.”
Israel Hasid, a spokesman for ZAKA, added: “In recent weeks, we have witnessed a worrying increase in cases of lonely people found lifeless in a state of decay. Don’t be indifferent to the elderly. Pay attention to your elderly neighbors. A simple human connection can save a life.”
