Naftali Bennett today (Thursday) sharply attacked News 12 commentator Amit Segal and right-wing journalists - for criticizing him for not addressing a letter of protest from pilots against the government.
""Once again, the same message page from the Netanyahu machine is being distributed by Riklin, Amit Segal and the other talkers. You will certainly not be surprised to know: the message page is a lie. The truth: As soon as the buds of refusal appeared (as early as March 23), I denounced it with all the force and severity. I addressed it repeatedly in my appearances before preparatory schools and organizations. As I said then, 'Reporting to the reserves and service is an absolute value, always,'" Bennett claimed.
He added, taking advantage of the opportunity to incite against the Haredi: "I do not accept refusal. Never. With the exception of Riklin, Amit Segal and their envoys, there is no one in the country who does not understand this. They would do well to ask Smotrich, Netanyahu and Goldknopf what about the institutional refusal of the Haredi sector. An amazing statistic that Riklin and Segal are surely familiar with: if only a fifth of the Haredi draftees had been drafted a few months ago, the reservists would not have had to be called up for 70 days of reserve duty now. They would not have had to ruin their business, their school year, or their family, who would no longer celebrate the Passover Seder with them.
""But Riklin, Segal and their friends are busy trying to harm me, because they want to perpetuate the government of omission and evasion. It's a shame.".
Amit Segal responded: "Don't be confused by Bennett's torrent of words about Segal, Riklin, and others. The purpose of the above-mentioned context-free texts is to avoid entering into issues that are the subject of public controversy.".
""Bennett wants the protest leaders on his side - and the soft right. Even if that means not expressing a position on any significant issue (kidnappers, war, refusal to vote, etc.). The main thing - not to lose a mandate or half a mandate in the polls.".
