The Labor Ministry sent a "dramatic" announcement to the media today (Wednesday), according to which it fined Millennium Marketing Intertrade Ltd. - an import and marketing company for housewares and kitchenware that operates the DOMO store in the Shevat Hakohavim mall in Herzliya - 280,000 shekels for working on the weekly rest day in violation of the law, and for failing to pay payments in violation of the pension extension order.

However, an examination by the Ynet website revealed, after a conversation with company personnel, that this was a fine that was issued in 2022 - and the appeal was filed a year later.

Shlomo Zigwich, CEO and owner of Millennium Marketing, told Ynet: "This is a case that occurred in 2022, in which during an audit of the chain store, gaps were found between the employees' statements and the population registry data regarding the possibility of employment on the weekly day of rest. An appeal filed in 2023 against the decision was rejected.".

The Labor Ministry also announced in a statement that it conducted "an enforcement operation this week in the 'Big Fashion Glilot' shopping complex to find businesses operating illegally and employing Jewish workers without permits on the day of rest. According to Labor Ministry procedure, the findings discovered will be examined and investigated during the week, and reports will be sent to the owners of businesses that violate the law.".

The ministry stated that "there will be zero tolerance towards businesses that operate in Big Fashion Glilot in violation of the law and employ workers on Shabbat.".

The office may impose a tax of NIS 41,130 on each business.

According to Labor Minister Yoav Ben-Zur, "My policy is clear: zero tolerance towards law-breaking employers who violated workers' rights and also employed Jewish workers illegally on the day of rest. The Labor Ministry will increase supervision and fine all businesses that operate in violation of the law.".

The Labor Ministry did not respond to Ynet.
