IDF forces began ground operations today (Saturday) in the Al-Janina neighborhood in Rafah, with the aim of expanding the security area in the southern Gaza Strip.
As part of the operation, the forces destroyed Hamas terror infrastructure.
At the same time, the IDF and Shin Bet continue airstrikes against terrorist targets of the Hamas and GAPF organizations throughout the Gaza Strip.
Among the targets destroyed over the weekend: weapons depots, rocket launchers, military buildings used by the terrorists, and other terrorist infrastructure.
The strikes eliminated terrorists, some of whom were involved in launching mortar shells towards Israeli territory.
For the first time since the collapse of the ceasefire, an explosion occurred today near an IDF D-9 bulldozer that was engaged in operational activity in the buffer zone, in the center of the Gaza Strip. There were no casualties in the incident.
The IDF suspects that this was anti-tank fire or the use of an explosive device against the forces. According to the initial suspicion, it is possible that this was an old explosive device - and not one that was planted recently.
After the explosion, terrorists fired mortar shells at IDF forces, who returned fire on the Gaza side of the border.
An IDF spokesman said that three mortar shells were fired at forces operating on the outskirts of Khan Yunis. Shortly afterwards, the IDF said that a mortar launch position was attacked in the area where the forces were attacked.
After the incident, IDF spokesman in Arabic, Avihai Adraee, issued an evacuation alert for residents in the Abasan, Al-Qara'a and Khirbet Khaza'a neighborhoods in eastern Khan Yunis.
In the message, in which he ordered them to evacuate to the center of Khan Yunis, Adrei wrote that "this is a final warning - the terrorist organizations are returning to launching rockets near civilians. For your safety, you must move immediately west towards the shelters in the Mawasi area.".
