ZAKA volunteers were called today (Tuesday) to Jabotinsky Street in Bnei Brak following a report received at the hotline about the discovery of a man's body in a state of total decomposition in an apartment.
Volunteers Yaakov Ta'izi and Ze'evi Wells, who treated the difficult scene, said: "We were rushed to a decay incident in Bnei Brak. It involved a 74-year-old man who lived alone in an apartment. The neighbors told us that they had seen a meal delivery on his door for several days - and in recent days they smelled a very strong odor coming from the apartment, which raised their suspicions and caused them to call the rescue forces.
""Police and rescue forces who arrived at the scene discovered that this was a case of total decomposition. With the assistance of additional volunteers and an ambulance crew, we treated the deceased with dignity and collected the numerous artifacts left at the scene and assisted the emergency services forces operating at the scene.".
The body was transferred for further treatment and investigation to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine.
Israel Hasid, ZAKA spokesman: "In the last 24 hours alone, ZAKA volunteers treated 4 cases of decay! And recently there has been a drastic increase in the cases of decay that ZAKA volunteers are forced to treat. Be sure to maintain contact with the elderly and lonely people around you. It saves lives.".
Through the activities of the Yechiel Goldman ZAKA and the Bnei Brak police station, the body of the deceased was identified and released for burial today.
The funeral of the late Avraham Mishal will be held at 8:00 PM at the Yarkon Shaar HaChesed Cemetery.
