Inspectors from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in cooperation with the Border Police, seized approximately 40,000 uninspected eggs smuggled from the Palestinian Authority territories.
The eggs were hidden in a truck disguised as a gravel transporter, with gravel placed on top of them in an attempt to deceive the inspectors at the crossings.
The eggs were transported without veterinary supervision, without seals, without documentation of origin, and without refrigeration as required by law.
It is suspected that the eggs were intended for distribution in markets and supermarkets in and around Jerusalem.
While inspecting the truck, border crossing workers noticed suspicious signs. A more thorough inspection revealed that about 40,000 eggs were hidden beneath the layers of gravel.
Given the real danger to public health from consuming the eggs, all the eggs were sent for destruction.
