The United States and Israel have contacted officials in three East African countries to explore the possibility of settling Gaza residents there.

According to a report this morning (Friday) by the Associated Press, the African countries with which Washington and Jerusalem have established contact are Sudan, Somalia, and the separatist region of Somaliland.

In the past, Morocco and Puntland, another separatist region in Somalia, were also mentioned in the context of absorbing residents from Gaza.

It was also reported that Sudan responded that they had rejected the request received from the United States. Somalia and Somaliland said that they were not aware of such a request.

This week, during a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris, President Trump said, in response to a journalist's question, that "nobody is expelling anyone from the Gaza Strip."

The left celebrated this statement.

At the same time, the Egyptian initiative for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip is also on the table. Last night, it was reported that the foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, and the Secretary-General of the PLO Executive Committee, Hussein al-Sheikh, met in Qatar with President Trump's envoy Witkoff and discussed the details of the Egyptian plan.

An Egyptian source told Kan News that the parties agreed that the Egyptian plan could form a basis for discussion, despite the gaps that still exist, and "this is a very important step." The Egyptian side believes that they were able to soften the initial American refusal.

At the same time, a diplomat from one of the Gulf states who participated in the meeting with Witkoff said that the Egyptian plan currently appears as a starting point, but it is clear that there will be further changes to it.
