Economy Minister Naftali Bennett's recommendation for the book "Tradition," a reading textbook taught in kindergarten classes in the ultra-Orthodox sector, drew many reactions.
In one of the comments, a female user wrote to him: "Recommend to the Minister of Education to teach according to this book. Today's methods don't work" - and Bennett replied: "I'll talk to him.".
Another moving response was: "Honorable Minister, years ago my son finished first grade and could not read. At that time, they were studying with Alfi on the television screen, what to do, but my son did not like television and therefore had difficulty reading. At that time, Knesset elections were being held, and avrechims from Rabbi Ovadia Yosef's beit midrash knocked on my door, asking if they could help with anything.
""I don't know how, I found myself telling them everything was fine except that my son was having trouble reading. From that day on, they came in the mornings, took my son to their yeshiva and taught him to read according to the room method with the book you presented. After just one month, my son started reading fluently and was ready for second grade.".
Bennett responded to this: "An amazing story. On several levels.".
The chairman of the Jewish Home, as we already reported, posted pictures of the book 'Hamosoret' on his Facebook page last night – and wrote: "For the third time I am teaching one of my children to read (only at their request, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. In my opinion, it's fun to wait until first grade, as it was with me).
""The red book in the picture is the best reading textbook I have come across. It is based on the teaching methods in the 'room' – a (successful) experience of hundreds of years. It simply works. Much more than any of the modern methods I have come across.
""The book is called: 'The Complete Tradition,' written in the 1950s, and updated in recent years. I have no idea where to get it (search on Google). In short – I highly recommend it to anyone who is teaching their daughter to read.".
