Building a new website or thoroughly upgrading an outdated website are actions that every business owner must perform, whether it is an online business or not. An obvious appendix to building a website is the issue of hosting the website on a web hosting company's server.

Most storage companies are treated in a uniform manner, which is a shame. There are significant differences between Web hosting company One to another, whether in the storage space offered to the customer, the level of security of the server, the power and speed of the server, the scope of customer service and technical support that each company provides, and other various parameters that create a difference between web hosting companies in Israel.

Another difference is not between the companies themselves, but the type of hosting that is suitable for your website. It may come as a bit of a surprise, but not all servers offered for hosting websites are the same or operate in the same way, and it is very important to know the differences between them before choosing a hosting package for your website.

Sometimes this is the most important step you will take for the success of the website you are just building.

What types of web hosting are there?

There are three types of web hosting you can choose from for your website.

Shared storage – The oldest and most common type of web hosting. It is based on multiple websites sharing the same server resources, including its storage space (which is allocated separately to each of them, the processor, memory, and so on).

Its advantage is an easy and simple management interface and low financial cost compared to other alternatives.

Its disadvantages are many, and most notably its low level of security, so that hacking one site on the server could lead to hacking other sites stored on the same server, overloading of certain sites that can cause slow speeds on their 'neighboring' sites on the same server, and lack of flexibility in customizing custom software, etc.

Virtual server hosting (VPS) - This is an intermediate solution that has become very common in recent years and a large part of the hosting packages in the last two years are based on it. Its basis is a single server that hosts several different websites, but unlike a shared website, it allocates separate resources to each of those websites as needed.

The advantages of a virtual server are better performance and higher speed than a shared server, and a much higher level of security because there is separation between the different sites stored on the same server. In addition, it is possible to install dedicated software for each site and also allocate resources to it according to its changing needs very quickly, usually online through settings in the storage package management system.

Its main disadvantage compared to a shared server is the price. The cost of a VPS server is higher. It also requires a slightly higher understanding of everything related to managing the server settings.

Dedicated server hosting - As the name suggests, the entire server is dedicated to your website. You can of course install several of your own websites on it, but it is mainly used for one central website that benefits from all the resources of that server.

The advantage is high effectiveness of maximum performance from your server and a very high level of security, without 'neighboring' sites that may create problems or hacks. You also have full control over the server configuration and dedicated software installed on it for your site.

The disadvantage, of course, is financial. Its cost is very high compared to the alternatives. It also requires knowledge of its installation and server settings by a professional IT person. Sometimes the service is included in your server hosting package at the server farm and sometimes not.

Who is each type of storage suitable for?

Let's start by noting that most websites in the world still operate on shared servers and the Internet is more alive and kicking than ever before. Along with this, it can be noted that today it is less profitable to choose to host a website on a shared server, so most choose a virtual private server (VPS).

Our breakdown for choosing the type of server that's right for you:

For small websites or landing pages, a shared server or virtual server is relevant.

For relatively large websites or commercial sites, it is worth choosing virtual server hosting.

For large websites of organizations, institutions, and large companies that require a high level of security and page loading speed on the website, or for websites with content that is updated regularly or that have high traffic, it is worth choosing a dedicated server.

Summary

Every website owner or website administrator must understand the existing differences, and consult with the web hosting company they have chosen to host their website, which hosting package is most suitable for them and what type of hosting.
