More than 350 fighter jets took part in a wave of air force strikes across Syria in recent days - in an operation to destroy the capabilities of the Syrian army.

The IDF gave the operation - which was launched after the fall of the Assad regime - the name "Arrow of Bashan." During the operation, 70-80 percent of the Syrian army's military capabilities were destroyed.

The IDF says that the goal of the operation is to prevent weapons and military equipment from reaching the hands of hostile elements among the rebels.

In the hours after the fall of the Assad regime, IDF fighter jets attacked the Syrian army's anti-aircraft systems, in order to enable the Air Force's extensive attacks on Syrian territory.

The IDF attacked 320 targets from Damascus to Tartus - including advanced tanks, dozens of aircraft and helicopters, air defense systems, missile ships, 15 ships with naval missiles off the coast of Latakia, rockets, weapons production sites, weapons depots, Scud missiles, cruise missiles, depots with coastal missiles, drones, production and research facilities, and additional strategic capabilities.

Among other things, Syria's air and naval forces were almost completely destroyed. Among the resources destroyed: dozens of planes and helicopters throughout Syria, warehouses with coastal missiles, 15 ships with naval missiles off the coast of Latakia,

The operation took place after years of intelligence gathering by the defense establishment, and after building a target bank from the IDF's Intelligence and Operations Divisions.

As part of Operation Bashan Arrow in Syria, activity continues on the ground, with IDF ground forces operating in the buffer zone, with IDF forces deployed at significant points in the buffer zone starting Saturday night and continuing today to expand protection for Israeli citizens on the Syrian border.

The IDF says that this activity caused the Iranians to remain outside of Syria, and that the ground activity is limited to the Israeli border and the buffer zone.

As part of the preparations, the IDF transferred warm equipment to fighters on the border and on the Syrian Hermon Range.
