After 11 years, history is being made in Jerusalem: At 4:00 PM (Tuesday), the polling stations opened in the Jerusalem Municipality building and 48 members of the electorate began arriving at the City Council in Safra Square to choose their candidates for the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi and the Sephardi Chief Rabbi behind the curtain.  Current updates: • 19:00 - The counting of votes has begun. It appears that Rabbis Aryeh Stern and Rishal Shlomo Amar are the new Chief Rabbis of Jerusalem.  • 18:30 - Contestant Rabbi Toledano: "I bless the day that we have lived and sustained and have reached this time. Because of the race, I am interviewed by all the media and I am speaking the word of God. It is a privilege. Rabbi Motzfi called me and said to me: Don't quit, you are speaking the truth. Rabbi Ovadia is dancing in heaven. I want to go and bless Rabbi Amar.".  • 18:13 - Asher Gold, media advisor at Rabbi Aryeh Stern's headquarters, to Haredim10: "Apparently we won.". • 18:09 - A senior official in the election campaign: "The one who made a school for Shas and got them to vote for Rabbi Amar is just someone who knows Shas from the inside.". • 18:03 - The Shlomi Emunim faction denies rumors that their representative did not vote for Rabbi Lau. • 18:01 - So far, 33 members of the electorate have voted. • 17:35 - Rachel Azaria from the 'Yerushalim' faction: "I told Amsalem from the beginning - you need to bring a bloc with you. You can't join at the last minute and change everything. The demonstrators carry signs that read: "Rabbi with Muslims, Rabbi with the rule of law.". • 17:14 - Ilan Kaminetsky from the Zionist Synagogue Association: "We decided to stick to the mayor's decision on an ultra-Orthodox rabbi and a Zionist rabbi, and therefore support Amar and Stern.
