The terrorist arrived at the intersection, fired in all directions, and wounded five people, one of whom was in critical condition. The critically injured man was pronounced dead a few minutes later.
Assuta Hospital in Ashdod reported that they are treating three injured people - one in moderate condition suffering from injuries to the upper body, and two more in mild condition - including a senior doctor from the hospital who stopped to help one of the victims of the shooting.
Another 37-year-old injured man was hospitalized at Kaplan Hospital in Rehovot with a gunshot wound to the thigh - his condition is described as moderate. "He is undergoing a series of tests and receiving medical treatment in the emergency room from the medical team."

An MDA volunteer who happened to be at the scene of the incident and noticed what was happening got out of his vehicle, and immediately shot at the terrorist, killing him - he told 'Kan News': "I was driving and noticed a man with a weapon standing on the road. At first I thought it was a policeman, then several shots were fired at me. I ducked, and immediately afterwards I jumped out of the vehicle, pulled out the gun and shot him. I feel like I fulfilled my civic duty."
MDA emergency medical technician Avner Ben David, who arrived at the scene of the attack on Highway 4, said: "We arrived at the scene with large forces. We saw a man in his 30s on the side of the road, unconscious, without a pulse or breathing, and with gunshot wounds to his body. We began performing CPR on him, loaded him into the intensive care unit, and quickly evacuated him to the hospital while continuing to perform CPR while his condition was critical."

An eyewitness who was there at the time of the attack told Channel 12: "I was driving on the road and suddenly I saw a terrorist start shooting in all directions. I started running away, I didn't understand what was happening. Suddenly someone got out of the car and shot him. A person there was hit, and then they shot the terrorist and killed him literally two seconds later."
The police said: Central District police are continuing to investigate the terrorist attack that occurred on Highway 4 south near the Yavne interchange.
