The late Shlomo Degani, 59, from Ramat Hasharon, is the pilot who was killed this morning in the crash of the light plane in the Binyamina area.

Degani, married and the father of three children, was a lieutenant colonel in the reserves, a helicopter pilot and a senior flight instructor at the flight school.

His family said: "A beloved husband and father who will be greatly missed. A cynic, a lover of the land and people. He practiced and breathed aviation his entire life from the age of 15. He was a flight instructor in the Air Force reserves, a pilot with extensive experience and was very calculating and careful."

His brother, the late Yaron Degani, who lived in El Salvador, was also killed in a plane crash in 2011. He too was killed while piloting a light aircraft.

Another person, a man in his 50s, was moderately injured in the plane crash this morning.

MDA medics, Boaz Fox and Ariel Baumel, said: "We arrived at the scene with ambulances, intensive care vehicles, motorcycles and an MDA helicopter. This is an airstrip in an area near Highway 6. We saw the light plane near the runway when one of the two people in it extricated himself and got out, and the other was trapped in the plane. We provided medical treatment to the injured person who was walking. He suffered a head injury and immediately transferred him to the MDA helicopter crew that landed nearby and evacuated him to the hospital. Together with the paramedics from the MDA helicopter crew, we performed medical examinations and determined the death of the second person in the plane."
