Because of the war in the north: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security announced the opening of an additional import quota of 5 million eggs, exempt from customs duties, as there is concern about a shortage of eggs and their supply, given the security threats that are harming local egg production capacity.
The new quota is added to the 10 million eggs already approved for import for the summer months, bringing the total quota to 15 million eggs by the end of August.
The ministry noted that in the first three weeks of July, approximately 4.5 million eggs entered Israel under the previous quota, indicating high utilization of the quota in a short time.
Israel produces an average of 2.2 billion table eggs per year, which meets local consumption. About 70% of Israel's laying hens are concentrated in the Galilee and the Golan Heights, and they produce about 1.6 billion eggs per year - about 73% of the total national production.
Eggs can be imported into Israel from areas free of avian influenza: Italy, Poland, Ukraine, Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria and the USA. Eggs for industry.
In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture allows the population of chicken coops on the conflict line in the north, even if they have not yet completed progress towards existing regulations, out of understanding the difficulties of the breeders and the security threat.
