The IDF destroyed a terror tunnel in Gaza - which penetrated 500 meters into Israeli territory. This was announced this evening (Saturday night) by an IDF spokesman. According to the publication, the tunnel, which was discovered in the Ein Hashlosha area in 2019, was dug before the construction of the underground barrier and has been under surveillance since then, with one branch of the tunnel crossing 500 meters into Israeli territory. According to the IDF, they initially decided not to destroy it, and the branch has since been under the full operational and intelligence control and control of the IDF, and sensors and charges were placed in it with the aim of serving the IDF if needed, as part of a special operation against Hamas' underground network. Since the beginning of the war, the tunnel has been attacked numerous times, along with several additional operations that neutralized the branch that crossed into Israeli territory. The tunnel was not used by the terrorists for the massacre on October 7 and was controlled by observation and fire throughout the war. The operation was carried out in cooperation between the Southern Command's engineering division, the Gaza Division, the 98th Division, and the Yahalam unit. In addition, two more terror tunnels were destroyed in the Khan Yunis area, which approached Israeli territory but did not penetrate beyond the barrier. One of the tunnels was uncovered about a decade ago, and in 2021 during Operation Guardian of the Walls it was attacked from the air, killing several Hamas terrorists. At the beginning of the war it was attacked at several points to prevent offensive activity, and in recent weeks it was destroyed by sabotage. Another tunnel was uncovered in 2014 as a terror tunnel that crossed into the territory of the State of Israel and was destroyed. The Hamas terrorist organization has not restored the tunnel since, and in recent weeks another section of the tunnel was destroyed by sabotage deep inside the Strip.
