A day before the deadline for submitting candidacies for the Jerusalem rabbinate, new names of rabbis considering running are being thrown into the air - sparking waves of rumors.

This afternoon, another name joined the list of names: the rabbi Mordechai Malka. Actually, two names.

It began in the afternoon, when it was announced that "Rabbi Mordechai Malka has filed a candidacy" - a name that until now had not been mentioned at all in the race.

The first name that came up was that of the rabbi Mordechai Malka, the Sephardic rabbi of the city of Elad - but his associates denied that the rabbi had submitted a candidacy.

In a conversation with Haredim10, those close to him say that Rabbi Malka is indeed considering running, and today he even met for consultation with Rabbi Kanievsky, who told him to run for office and wished him success.

Those around him are not willing to elaborate on the issue of support for the candidacy, and whether contacts are taking place with Shas members.

However, it does not appear that Shas will support Rabbi El-Ad, after Rishon Lezion Amar submitted his candidacy today, and a member of the Council of Torah Sages, the Grat "Rabbi Yosef, is also interested in running, claiming that his father, the Grat "Rabbi zt"l, supported him for the position.

In addition, the Gaon Rabbi Reuven Elbaz, Rosh Yeshiva 'Or Chaim', is also considering running. His name has been mentioned for a long time as someone who may run for the position of Sephardic rabbi. Rabbi Elbaz is expected to make a decision this evening. If he decides to run, Shas will likely prefer to support him, as someone who has earned great closeness and trust from the Gra"a zt"l.

But here comes the surprise: It turns out that the advertisement that "Rabbi Mordechai Malka has submitted a candidacy" was true. However, this is not Rabbi Mordechai Malka of Elad, but a rabbi with the same name who serves as the rabbi of the Beer Tuvia Regional Council.

Rabbi Malka arrived at the Ministry of Religious Affairs this morning and officially submitted his candidacy for the Jerusalem rabbinate. In doing so, he joins Rabbi Amar, Rabbi Toliadno, and Rabbi Amsalem, who have already submitted their candidacy forms.

Rabbi Malka lives in Ashdod and is known as a Kabbalist. He serves as rabbi in the Be'er Tuvia Regional Council, and in the past he also ran for the position of rabbi of Ashdod.

It is unclear why the southerner decided to run for office and whether there is any support for his candidacy.

We tried to get his response, but without success - until the time of publication of the news.
