The IDF authorized the publication this evening (Wednesday) that Sergeant David Sasson, a fighter in the Oketz unit, 21 years old from Magnot Hadar, fell in battle in the Gaza Strip. In the same battle in which Sergeant David Sasson fell, three fighters from the Commando Brigade and two fighters from the Oketz unit - the Marom Brigade - were seriously injured. Seven additional fighters were injured in various ways. Sergeant Sasson is the first fighter from the unit to fall since the ground maneuvers in the Gaza Strip began. The mission for which Sergeant Sasson fought in the morning hours was to clear several buildings in one of the neighborhoods of Khan Yunis. As part of the exercise, the Oketz unit's dogs marched at the head of the force, in this case the Commando brigade. A dog entered a house, the fighters went inside after him, searched the building and went up to the third floor - where terrorists ambushed them. When the dog entered the room, an explosive device was detonated, leading to the death of Sergeant Sasson and the injury of 12 other soldiers. The force charged toward the squad and eliminated some of the terrorists who had ambushed it. In another battle in the southern Gaza Strip, a soldier in the commando brigade was seriously wounded. The wounded were evacuated to receive medical treatment at the hospital, and their families were notified. This brought the number of IDF casualties since the beginning of the war to 587.
