The Jerusalem District Attorney's Office today (Wednesday) informed Akrim Sabry, 85, head of the Supreme Muslim Council in Jerusalem and a supreme Muslim religious authority in the city and the Palestinian Authority, of the decision to prosecute him for incitement to terrorism offenses - subject to a hearing to be held for him.

The decision was made with the approval of the Legal Advisor to the Government and the State Attorney,

On two occasions during October 2022, the suspect visited the homes of terrorist families for consolation. During the visits, the suspect is suspected of inciting terrorism while being filmed praising the terrorists.

The videos were posted on Sabri's account on the leading Facebook page of the World Union of Muslim Scholars.

Earlier today, the State Attorney's Office announced to the court, in response to a petition by the Lavi organization, that former Mufti of Jerusalem Ekrima Sabri will be prosecuted for two offenses of incitement to terrorism.

The Lavie organization stated: "Ekrima Sabri, the successor to Mufti Hajj Amin al-Husseini, has been inciting the murder of Jews without ceasing. The time has come for justice to be served."

"We congratulate the Israel Police and the State Attorney's Office for the decision to prosecute the Jew-hater Ekrima Sabri.

"We thank attorneys Eran Ben Ari and Assaf Tekhelet who submitted the petition to the High Court of Justice, 'Kol Hayehudi' for the investigative articles on the Mufti's case, and the organizations Im Tirtzu, Lech Jerusalem, and the Forum Chosen for Life for their partnership in the process that led to the Mufti's prosecution."
