Deputy Minister of Religious Services, Rabbi Eli Ben Dahan, responded this morning to the Finance Ministry's decision to cut the section on support for synagogues and mikvahs in the 2015 budget: "The decision will be changed, religious buildings will be built and the people of Israel will continue to uphold the tradition of their ancestors.".
Last night, a draft resolution was published by the Ministry of Finance, which stated: "We decide to cancel the support provided by the Ministry of Religious Services for the construction of new religious buildings..", with the background reading: "..such as synagogues and mikvahs..""
The Deputy Minister of Religious Services said that the decision to cancel the support for two years will be changed, and throughout the country, in the north, in the south, in the center, and in Judea and Samaria, religious buildings will continue to be built, and the people of Israel will continue to uphold the tradition of their ancestors and draw closer to it.
The deputy minister added: "How symbolic that the decision-makers' proposal was published precisely during the holiday season when the entire Jewish people, secular, traditional, religious and ultra-Orthodox from all walks of Israeli society, unite for joint prayer in churches in Israel. Religious buildings will also be built in the coming year.".
A senior official in the Ministry of Religious Services said that thanks to the Deputy Minister's activities, we are formulating agreements on the issue with the Ministry of Finance.
