A particularly moving circumcision ceremony took place this week at Hadassah Mount Scopus: The uncle, a patient in the rehabilitation department at Hadassah Mount Scopus after being injured in the war in the south, was honored to serve as godfather at his nephew's circumcision - and between physiotherapy and occupational therapy, he received the newborn. This is a young couple whose son was born at Hadassah, and during the preparations for the circumcision, the couple asked the hospital management to hold the circumcision at Hadassah Mount Scopus, in order to grant the father's uncle the right to serve as godfather. The Hadassah management was mobilized and the hospital staff participated in everything necessary to make the event a success. On the morning of the celebration, the extended family gathered at Hadassah Mount Scopus and the uncle arrived from the rehabilitation department to the circumcision hall, assisted by crutches due to his medical condition, accompanied by the team caring for him. The baby's great-grandfather, 95-year-old Sergeant Ezra Yakhin, the oldest reservist currently serving in the IDF and ever in Israeli history, also participated in the ceremony. [Gallery] The proud great-grandfather arrived in his reserve uniform, straight from the IDF assembly areas where he works as part of his service, in a conversation with fighters about Zionism, battle heritage and his personal experience in Israel's wars, fighting and rebirth. Ezra Yakhin, born in 1928, is an Israeli writer, a fighter in the Lehi movement and leaves behind a battle legacy for his activities in the underground and in the War of Independence. In 2023, during the Iron Swords War, he enlisted in the reserves at the age of 95 and became the oldest reservist in the country's history. Hadassah teams who are caring for David in the rehabilitation department also participated in the event and were privileged to see him serve as godfather. His immediate family, as well as his entire extended family, couldn't stop crying with excitement at the great miracle the family experienced: both rehabilitation and a new life.
