Lieberman in a sharp message ahead of the prime minister's speech: "It's clear that Abu Mazen has lost touch with reality. He simply doesn't represent anyone. He feels he has lost ground, and that's why he's shooting in all directions.".

The minister made the remarks at a press conference he held on the sidelines of the General Assembly. He referred to the harsh speech by the PA chairman, calling it a 'message of hatred and incitement.'.

Lieberman claimed that Abu Mazen 'has no legitimacy to speak on behalf of the Palestinian people' and said that he has no control over the Gaza Strip, and that he has postponed the elections for more than four years: "The other problem with Abu Mazen is that he is always offended, and that he remembers every statement against him since he was born. This is not a way to build trust with your partners.".

The Foreign Minister referred to the negotiations and said: "For a political horizon, for a sustainable solution, our desires alone are not enough. We need a partner on the other side. As long as there is no partner, we cannot stand with a stopwatch in hand and put pressure on ourselves. I suggest that we be patient, long-suffering. We are ready to go for a serious, inclusive solution, but as long as there is no partner, it remains ready on the shelf - but nothing beyond that.".

Regarding the Iranian nuclear issue and the ongoing talks between Western countries and Iran, Lieberman said: "We think this is a bad deal. We have experience with bad deals, North Korea for example. This is completely unacceptable. If the Iranians achieve nuclear capability, the immediate result will be a crazy arms race throughout the Middle East." Lieberman added and threatened that 'all options are open.'.
