Theft for the holidays: A 30-year-old resident of Beit Shemesh was arrested last night (Monday) by Jerusalem Municipal Police officers on suspicion of stealing purchase receipts worth tens of thousands of shekels and a credit card over the weekend - with which he allegedly made purchases.
During an activity by the Jerusalem District Municipal Police in the city center, a suspect was located in the break-in at the offices of an association that assists the needy. He was arrested by the police and taken for questioning at the Lev HaBira police station.
According to suspicion, over the weekend the suspect broke into the association's offices and stole holiday gift certificates worth an estimated tens of thousands of shekels, as well as a credit card belonging to a local employee, with which he made several purchase transactions that very night.
Following a report of the outbreak, a police investigation was opened, during which findings were collected.
Police investigators revealed the identity of the suspect in the incident, and the suspect's details were distributed to all police officers operating in the city of Jerusalem in an attempt to locate him. Last night, he was spotted in the city center by the municipal policing unit, who arrested him.
In a search conducted at the suspect's residence, purchase receipts, lottery forms, credit cards, and other property suspected of being stolen were located and seized.
The suspect was transferred to the police for questioning and will be brought before the court during the day with a request to extend his detention.
