30 million people have so far signed up for the initial version of Meta's new social network "Threads," which launched today.
According to a report in 'Kan News', Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg himself already has 1.1 million followers, and is the first user to surpass one million followers on the new social network.
""Threads" was built by Instagram's text sharing team.
Unlike Instagram, which emphasizes photos and videos, Threads is based on text-based posts and aims to become an arena for what is called "public discourse." The app allows for posts of up to 500 characters, which can include links, photos, and videos up to five minutes long.
Threads supports Hebrew, but the text is left-aligned, so any attempt to incorporate English text into a post will lead to messy text.
Yair Lapid, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and the chairman of the State Camp, Benny Gantz, are the first politicians to have already connected.
Among those joining the social network is Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who shared an old video of himself jumping on a chair and wrote: "I made the jump." Zuckerberg replied: "Impressive jump, to be honest.".
""Threads" is Meta's first app to support an open social networking protocol. It is therefore expected to allow users from other apps that also support this technology to follow and interact with people on "Threads" without having an account there, and vice versa.
The connection to the app is made through your Instagram account, so you can follow the same accounts you follow on Instagram and beyond. In addition, any accounts that are blocked on Instagram will automatically be blocked in "Threads".
Similar to Instagram, the feed in the new app includes content from the people you follow and recommended content from new creators.
You can define who can mention you or respond to you, and you can also filter responses that contain specific words. The app also allows you to unfollow, block, restrict, or report a profile.
