Discover America: How do smart people prefer to stick to an imaginary world?

This week we were exposed to a discovery comparable to the achievement of Columbus – Israeli journalists who went to Qatar discovered to their astonishment that the Arab world is hostile to us and does not recognize the Jewish state. The journalists reported with excitement that it turned out to them that the crowd demanding to 'liberate Palestine' does not mean Judea and Samaria, but Tel Aviv and Haifa, Ashkelon and Netanya. Shock!

We read and hear these reports and don't know whether to laugh or cry. Isn't this picture clear for all to see? There is no need to penetrate secret documents to discover the desire for the destruction of Israel.

These things are said every day, openly and emphatically, but there were those who insisted on closing their eyes and plugging their ears, and sailing on the waves of illusions of peace.

'Release' what?

And you ask yourself: How does this happen? How do smart and intelligent people ignore reality and prefer to cling to an imaginary worldview? Even at the height of the fighting in Gaza, spokesmen of that school of thought appeared and passionately argued that we must 'talk to them.' Who to talk to, Hamas? Who wants you destroyed? Who clearly declares that you have no right to exist in this country?

The older ones among us still remember the antics with which they tried to justify the failure to annul the Palestinian Charter, after the signing of the Oslo Accords. This Charter is the founding document of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

Please note: The organization was founded in 1964, long before the Six-Day War and the 'occupation.' What exactly does it seek to 'liberate' - the State of Israel within its pre-1967 borders?.

The treaty states that the Land of Israel belongs exclusively to the Arabs, and that the existence of the State of Israel must be abolished. This treaty was not abolished, although fraudulent practices were made, which turned out to be invalid.

Someone asked himself, why do the Arabs insist on not canceling the treaty, and perhaps this reveals something about their true intentions?

Debate about worldviews is legitimate, but blatant disregard for reality and a stubborn refusal to listen to what is said openly and publicly - this is an incomprehensible phenomenon. Until you travel to Qatar and suddenly receive the truth straight in the face.

They better be afraid.

Jews who are connected to tradition do not usually fall into this trap. They read this week's Torah portion and see that anti-Semitism has accompanied the Jewish people since the beginning of creation. Laban deceived and harassed Jacob long before the 'conquest' was born. The Egyptians also worked the Israelites hard before the 'conquest' was born.

All of Jewish history is accompanied by hatred of Jews that has no real reason, other than pure hatred of Israel. Those who are connected to tradition know that the people of Israel are one sheep among seventy wolves. This is the reality, and we must live with it. There is no room for illusions that if we only meet the demands of our enemies, the wolf and the lamb will live together in peace.

We do not have the power to eliminate the hatred of the nations of the world for Israel, but God certainly gives us the power to deter our enemies. We do not need them to love us. It is better for them to fear us. This is what will actually bring peace and quiet.
