The Israel Police have filed an indictment against a young man, a resident of Hebron, who was arrested following a traffic offense he committed - and who posed as someone else to the police officer. An investigation also revealed that he had never issued a driver's license and entered Israel illegally. During a surveillance and enforcement activity conducted by the Jerusalem District traffic police earlier this month against serious traffic offenses, a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old man from Hebron was stopped after the traffic police officer noticed him using a mobile phone while driving. After stopping the vehicle and for the purpose of identification, the suspect driver presented a photocopy of a driver's license in the name of another person on his cell phone, claiming that he was rushing to the hospital because his wife was there and not feeling well. In addition, the suspect driver was unable to answer several verification questions asked by the police officer, such as the date of birth of the person appearing on the license, thus increasing the trained police officer's suspicion that the person was probably identifying himself as someone else. At one point, the driver fell to the ground and a medical team was called to the scene. After being examined on the spot by medical personnel, the suspect was taken to the hospital, under police escort, while at the same time, checking the identity of the person appearing in the photocopy of the driver's license presented to the police officer by the suspect revealed that it was a person whose wallet was stolen in the past year. Additional police officers who were called to the scene of the vehicle stop conducted a search and located additional documents in the name of another person under the driver's seat, and an inquiry conducted with him revealed that his wallet had been stolen recently. Examination An in-depth investigation conducted by the police revealed that the suspect is an illegal resident who has never obtained a driver's license. After completing his examination at the hospital, he was arrested and transferred for questioning at the Lev HaBira police station. The Jerusalem District Police Prosecution Unit filed an indictment against him for a traffic violation, driving without a driver's license, impersonating another person with the intent to defraud, and driving a vehicle without insurance.
