A strong speech, the first after Operation Protective Edge, by Economy Minister and Cabinet member Naftali Bennett at the conference of the Institute for Counterterrorism Policy of the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya.
During the speech, Bennett attacked the left's view that supports the establishment of a Palestinian state, comparing it to the concept that led to the Yom Kippur War: "A Palestinian state in Judea and Samaria is our Yom Kippur concept. We must get rid of it. But you, my friends on the left, are not listening," Bennett said, adding: "Six months ago I said that a Palestinian state would crush the Israeli economy and they laughed, after Ben Gurion Airport was shut down during Protective Edge, they stopped laughing.
""Is there anyone else today who thinks that the hills that dominate Ben Gurion Airport can be given away? One mortar a month and we have no more economy.".
During his speech, Bennett warned that the establishment of a Palestinian state would lead to a front line for ISIS and Hamas within Israel's borders, and the concept of a Palestinian state is a concept of yesterday.
""I sit here and listen to the speeches of the leftists and I can't believe what I'm hearing. I feel like I'm in the nineties. But that's not me, the left lives in the nineties. It's like a person sitting on the beach and a huge tsunami is rising in front of him, but he looks into a small aquarium and says everything is fine.".
Bennett also referred to Operation Protective Edge in his speech and said: "It's no secret that I opposed sending delegations to Cairo during the fighting. In the end, when was the ceasefire achieved? When the delegation was here. Even for those who supported going to talks and a ceasefire, this turned out to be a mistake. During Operation Protective Edge, there were also concepts that collapsed. Already in the first days, we saw that there was talk that Hamas was deterred, that if they just came out of the bunkers and saw what happened in Gaza, everything would change.".
Regarding the future, Bennett said: "In the midst of the stormy sea, the State of Israel should be a lighthouse, with solid foundations of security, economy and our 4,000-year heritage. We need to export light abroad, we are engaged in the Ministry of Economy in exporting goodness. We export water technologies to India and China, medical technologies that save human lives to the whole world, this should be our vision for the future.".
