Briefing: Yisrael Beiteinu Chairman, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, addressed a variety of issues on the agenda today in a briefing for political reporters.

He said he is "not happy" with the current coalition, but the national interest is not to bring the elections forward.

Liberman once again expressed his position against the entry of the Haredim into the coalition, claiming: "The entry of the Haredim into the coalition is an immediate addition of 3.5 billion shekels, and I don't think we are capable of that.".

He added: "There were those in Likud who wanted to put the Haredim in place of Yair Lapid, and I thought that was wrong." In his opinion, "If something brings down the government, it's not the political issue. The biggest threat is the civil sphere and religion and state. I saw that Tzipi Livni is talking again about an ultimatum on the issue of the conversion law. That, in my opinion, is the threat to the government.".

Last night, a member of his party, Minister Yitzhak Ahronovich, said that "elections are not on the horizon, but Yisrael Beiteinu will strengthen and Avigdor Lieberman will be the next Prime Minister of Israel.".

Referring to the operation in Gaza, Lieberman said: "There will be no denuclearization," but "we must not agree to Hamas controlling the Strip." He said that the agreement on the ceasefire reached in Cairo "was by consensus," even though he himself criticized it.

Lieberman also hinted at the attempted assassination of the head of Hamas' military wing, Muhammad Deif, saying: "If until now, in the situation Hamas is in, we have not yet heard an audio tape in Deif's voice - there is probably room for optimism.".
