The chairman of the Meron settlement committee, Mordechai Halperin, was re-elected as chairman of the Meron settlement and the Meron economic enterprises, by an overwhelming majority of 93%. Four other candidates presented their candidacies against Halperin, who shared the remaining seven percent. Halperin, a Chabad Hasid, has lived in Meron for nearly 40 years and has served as the settlement's chairman for the past 7 years. Elections for the settlement committee are held every two and a half years. In a conversation with Haredim10, Halperin notes that "what is important is that Meron is becoming more and more Haredi. This is a very important point in relation to the fact that recently many foreign residents have been building their homes in Meron, and most of them are Haredi. My choice will continue the trend of the settlement becoming more Haredi. We will continue to improve the quality of life of the residents, develop the infrastructure in the settlement and at the Rashbi site.".
