A 38-year-old resident of Rishon Lezion was detained today (Monday) for questioning by the police, after a joint operation with customs investigators from the Tax Authority and the Ministry of Health seized thousands of drugs and dangerous substances that are prohibited from being possessed and distributed in his apartment. The arrest was made after a joint operation by the Rishon Lezion municipal police in cooperation with Central Customs investigators and the Enforcement Division at the Ministry of Health, conducted a search of an apartment on Ha-Hakim Suleiman Street in the city. During the search, which was conducted following an undercover investigation lasting several months conducted by Central Customs investigators, a commercial quantity of prescription drugs and dangerous substances that are prohibited from being imported - which may endanger public health if used not in accordance with a doctor's instructions - was seized. According to suspicion, the suspect used a variety of methods of operation in order to smuggle the drugs into Israel - and even marketed the prohibited substances online. The suspect was detained at the police station for questioning on suspicion of supplying a drug, a toxic and dangerous substance, and violations of the Pharmacy Ordinance. The suspect will also be investigated by customs for the importation of prohibited substances and tax evasion in amounts of hundreds of thousands of shekels.
