The heavy rains in the coastal plain caused flooding in several cities in the central region today (Sunday). How can I switch banks with a click for free? • All questions and answers Where are the coronavirus tests performed? What test is done and when? All the information 7 million American children who were vaccinated are not wrong: We got vaccinated and you should get vaccinated too Has it been three months since your second vaccination? This is how you will protect yourself from the virus In Petah Tikva, Yavne, and Netanya - many streets were flooded with rainwater and blocked. The Yehud River overflowed its banks this morning and there is a fear of flooding on Ben Gurion Street in the city. In Lod, 18,000 residents of the Ganei Aviv neighborhood found themselves besieged due to flooding - and the municipality informed residents that the only way to get in and out was by train. In the Neve Yarak neighborhood in the city, firefighter forces evacuated several houses following the rise in water levels. Orit Nevo, a resident of the Ganei Aviv neighborhood in Lod, said in an interview with Reshet B: "Buses cannot enter, the health insurance fund is not operating and the coronavirus testing complex is not opening. This is once again flooding the situation in the neighborhood. It can happen all over the country that one day a year there is an unusual situation, here the neighborhood was built in a sinful way, incorrectly." The Lod Municipality says that the streams flowing through Lod, including the Gezer Stream - one of the tributaries of the Ayalon River, have overflowed their banks due to the massive amount of rainfall since last Thursday. As a result, several locations in neighborhoods near the city's streams were flooded after the stream flow reached its peak. Mayor, Attorney Yair Revivo, instructed all municipal officials to immediately handle any unusual event. Meanwhile, the Lod Municipality's emergency response team mobilized all teams that have been working feverishly since last Thursday, 24 hours a day, even on Shabbat, to handle the flooding hotspots in Lod. As in the previous event of Storm Carmel, the drainage systems were able to successfully drain the rainwater in most parts of the city, but in the current system, due to the heavy rains that flooded the streams running through the city, flooding occurred in several locations in the city, including the Neve Yarak and Ganei Aviv neighborhoods. In Ganei Aviv, the level crossing at the exit and entrance to the neighborhood was opened to traffic, which was flooded after all the water was pumped out using the municipality's sewers. [Gallery]
Flooding near Ganei Ayalon
It should be noted that in recent years the municipality has invested tens of millions of shekels in upgrading and replacing the drainage, water and sewage systems throughout the city, and every year, in preparation for winter, the municipality carries out preparatory work to absorb rainfall and prevent flooding in the city, including cleaning the receivers and open drainage channels. The municipality's good preparation has proven itself this time as well. In a statement issued by the mayor, Attorney Yair Revivo, he said: "The blessed and rare rain filled all the city's streams to their brim, something that has not happened in 30 years, and this means that the water is returning to the drains within the city. We are in contact with the National Drainage Authority and will update you on any worsening that may threaten the flooding of homes and entrances to neighborhoods, especially in neighborhoods adjacent to the city's streams: Neve Yarak, Ganei Aviv, Ganei Yaar and Ganei Ayalon." The mayor added: "The city's drains worked excellently and the entire city itself is drained. And that is the role of the Nikkenz system: to transfer the water to the streams, and from there to the sea, and as mentioned, the rains are now intense. Look at the pictures from other cities and you will understand how well prepared we are, as we are every year. For example, from Thursday until now and throughout the entire Sabbath, many teams worked to provide a response, and for that it is also appropriate to know how to say thank you." In addition, the Lod Municipality established a task force with all the forces near the Gezer Stream - near the Ganei Ayalon neighborhood - due to the heavy rains that fell all last weekend and this morning, and due to the fear of flooding throughout the neighborhood. "Educational institutions have been instructed to warn children not to approach the Gezer Stream, and we will even guard the area so that, God forbid, there will be disasters. Dear parents: Pay double attention to your children today. In addition, the Lod Municipality asked residents in the neighborhood to remove their vehicles from the parking lots for fear of flooding and the danger that exists in this."   A resident of the Amishav neighborhood in Petah Tikva took advantage of the flooding in the neighborhood to take out a kayak and paddle around the neighborhood. In response to the flooding in the neighborhood, the Petah Tikva Municipality stated: "After years of neglect in the Amishav neighborhood, in recent years infrastructure upgrades and renovations have been carried out at a cost of tens of millions of shekels, including on the main roads. The flooding occurred on a street near the open areas of South Sharon. We prepared in advance and installed blockages in these areas to prevent flow into the neighborhood. It is possible that a certain person opened one of the blockages. We will work to renew the blockages that prevent flow into the neighborhood." A similar incident also occurred in nearby Kafr Qassem, where a man and a girl whose vehicle was stuck on the road were rescued by a fire and rescue team. The rains are expected to gradually weaken in the north and center. The cold also brought snowfall in the Mount Hermon area – with about 10 centimeters of snow falling on the lower part of the mountain yesterday, compared to about 25 centimeters on the upper level. The site is closed to visitors today and is expected to reopen tomorrow. Tomorrow is expected to be a clear day but the intense cold will continue. On Tuesday, temperatures will drop significantly and it will get even colder, but there will be no rain and it will be partly cloudy.
