In the following lines, I would like to urge the cabinet ministers and members of the government: Stand united behind the Prime Minister.
The strength of a nation is measured, among other things, by its unity.
The power of statesmen is measured, among other things, by the amount of responsibility they take on.
Statesmen like Menachem Begin supported the government and its leader in every wartime challenge that the State of Israel faced. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acted statesmanlike and did so as opposition leader twice: during the Second Lebanon War, when he was even sent to Europe on propaganda missions that included supporting the government, and during Operation Cast Lead, when he traveled from studio to studio and from place to place supporting the government and promoting Israel.
Recently, a video appeared on the Internet showing Prime Minister Netanyahu criticizing the Olmert government as the head of the opposition. It is important to clarify that Netanyahu criticized the government after the operation, not during it. Until then, he acted as a state opposition. After the operation, he acted as a responsible opposition in a democratic country, as one who creates an alternative to the government. This is legitimate and even desirable behavior.
Thanks to technological means and the Internet, we can witness these facts. Operation Cast Lead ended on January 18, the video is from February 3, and whenever you, the elected officials, do not do this, you are playing into the hands of our enemies who rub their hands and watch with pleasure as they happen.
This is a testing time for you, for us, and for the entire people of Israel.
