Security personnel separated the two and the attacker was removed from the stage. The one who was sitting at the front of the hall and watching the events was the Iranian Minister of the Interior, Ahmad Vahidi. According to a report by the IRNA agency, the attacker is affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards and slapped the governor for "personal reasons." The person attacked in the incident, the incoming governor of the East Azerbaijan province, Abdin Khorram, previously served in Iran's Revolutionary Guards, who was even kidnapped in Syria by rebel forces. After the incident, Khorram returned to the stage and responded: "I do not know the attacker and I forgive him."
