The tax will come into effect on January 1, 2022, unless the Finance Committee changes it in some way by then. According to the order, the tax will be imposed on beverages sweetened with added sugar, such as cola, as well as on diet and zero drinks sweetened with artificial sweeteners, and on natural juices without added sugar, since their sugar content is usually very high. According to the order, a sweet drink with a sugar content higher than or equal to 5% will be taxed in the amount of NIS per liter. However, the tax on sweet drinks will be about 30 agorot lower than previously planned. The tax imposed on diet drinks will be unchanged - 70 agorot per liter. This means that nine shekels will be added to the price of a six-pack of large cola bottles, which contains nine liters. Compared to the price common in retail chains today, this means an increase of about 25%. According to the beverage companies' assessment, the imposition of the tax will have a drastic negative impact on their sales. Kror, which owns the beverage company 'Yafora', reported to investors that it expects the imposition of the tax to have a significant negative impact on its results. The company is still studying the implications of the order, its implementation method and the necessary adjustments to the company's results.
